Celebrating 50 Years of Catholicism in Northern Virginia
In 1974, Pope Paul VI recognized the growning catholic community in Northern Virginia and split Virginia into the two Diocese, establishing the Diocese of Arlington. The Diocese continues to thrive in the 21st century, celebrating its 50 year jubilee in 2024. One of the main events of the jubilee included a festival celebrating the various facets of the Northern Virginia Catholic community. This included traditional dances, drum bands, Marian devotions, concerts, and a fireworks display to close out the night. Bishop Burbidge celebrated mass and addressed the crowds, congratulating them on building such a strong community and compelling them into the future.
